That saying makes a lot more sense if you know it's a misphrasing (and shortened version) of 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating' :-) I'm enjoying reading about/seeing your 36 quilts in 12 months...thanks for sharing your excellent progress!

"the proof of the pudding is in the eating"means you wont know if what you have done (as in make a beautiful pudding creation, or any other creative process ) is any good unless you try it out, test the market, take the plunge enter it into a competition or show, or indeed eat the pudding, preferably with lashings if whipped cram :-)
All the best for your special project. It's a great challenge. Remember a quilt does not have to be full bed size!!!
